Final Reflection

Finally had the presentation this morning! Though we encountered a few problems as a group due to one of our members pulling out only the night before the project, i took over the required section and it only pushed us into doing better as a group of 3 and give a strong an solid presentation! So proud of me and my group members overall!
This group 4 challenge has taught me to be more open to working with new people as it taught me to compromise, which is what i know i will have to face within the real world. Being placed in a group of people without my control was scary at first but i learnt to get over it and focus on the final goal which was conveying the message of our presentation and learning to look at things from very different views.
Getting to hear the presentation of other groups also gave me insight of the issues and reality present within the theme of "Sports Science" and strengthened my knowledge on things i had previously not be sure of. I definitely feel i have come out a new person as i overcame my fears of working with new people, presenting on a field i am not so confident in and listening to what others had to say!

Through the ups and downs, we still managed to contribute our own views and thoughts to do with the topic from a number of different lenses. Through meeting on October 3rd, October 15th and October 30th we got to share and present each other different ideas, and by meeting at Chloe's house on November 2nd we got to doing our experiment and then finalized and polished our presentation on November 13th in the Commons. This Group 4 project has taught me that though it may be hard to get to that final goal, it is possible when the right amount of time  co-operation is put into it!

Group 4 Tomorrow!

The presentation day is coming up tomorrow, and I feel confident and ready to deliver the facts i have researched on within the biological aspects that enable a javelin thrower to have the most successful throw!

Met with my group yesterday and we are slowly starting to come together. I am glad that the members are putting in the time and work necessary within our different fields of research to give an overall strong presentation!

I honestly feel like meeting up at times that suited everyone has proved to be challenging, but in the end we are managing to put our differences aside and come together as a group.

As my researched has furthered, i have decided to incorporate the aspect of blood doping and link that to how if could potentially help the javelin throw of the athlete, however it is still unethical and doesn't give people a right to do it. I have also linked all of my area's of focus to how it will enable the athlete to have the most successful javelin throw, including the heart rate, the stroke volume, the blood pressure and the blood flow. Finding specific information to support our research question was problematic at first, but i believe with the use of m knowledge gained within the IB Biology class, i will be able to fill in the gaps and deliver a strong presentation to me fellow classmates!

Group Meeting!

Today me and my group met in the Commons group study room.
We briefed eachother on the research we had come up with so far, and outlined a plan on what to do to prepare more for the presentation next week.
In my section of the presentation, both me an Jean will be talking about the biological aspects that link to the sport of Javelin, however i will focus on the cardiovascular and digestive system and he will focus on the muscles involved.

This is some of the information i have come up with so far linking to an athlete's cardiovascular system:
The five main ideas are:

  • Hear rate
  • Stroke volume
  • Cardiac output
  • Blood flow
  • Blood pressure
I will go into specific details within all five of these aspects within the sport of javelin and will link special dietary requirements to its affect on the digestive system
